The crew at Singles on Sailboats (SOS) loves to socialize—and we’re always ready for a great party! The Social Committee is excited to host five signature events this year:

  • DNR Cruise & Shore Party – Our annual spring kickoff at the Department of Natural Resources park on the Wye River (Eastern Shore). This peaceful, scenic setting is perfect for relaxing and reconnecting, while also offering a lively atmosphere with great food, music, and dancing.
  • Anniversary Party – A celebration of SOS’s founding in 1978. Enjoy a fabulous buffet dinner, open bar, music, and dancing, along with a special champagne toast and cake honoring our past and present Commodores. This is one event you won’t want to miss!
  • Seafood Feast – The ultimate summer gathering featuring the best of the Bay and the season: Maryland steamed crabs, shrimp, fried chicken, and corn on the cob, complemented by salads and desserts.
  • Chili Cook-Off – A perfect fall event combining a beautiful cruise with friendly competition. Sample creations from SOS’s top chili chefs and enjoy prizes (and bragging rights!) awarded across several categories.
  • Halloween Party – The grand finale of our social season! Join us for a fun-filled evening of food, music, games, and creative costumes—come ready to impress in your prize-worthy attire.

The Social Committee brings all of these events to life, and volunteers are always welcome—whether you want to help with one event or all of them. As a bonus, you’ll be invited to planning meetings (which, honestly, feel like parties themselves!)—a great way to meet fellow members.

What do we do? Just about everything: selecting caterers and menus, booking entertainment, choosing themes and décor, purchasing beverages, promoting events, and handling setup and breakdown—plus everything in between.
If you volunteer, expect to attend a couple of planning meetings in the spring and early summer (typically in Annapolis) and assist on the day of at least one event.
